More properties 'need to be built for homebuyers'

People looking to purchase a house for sale in the UK could end up
with a new-build if the government listens to calls to construct
more properties.
The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has suggested that there
are still not enough new homes being built to cope with the demand
from homebuyers.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the company, said: "We
are actually building less than half of what we need every
year."
He added that the current government is not achieving previous
targets of a quarter of a million new properties over 12
months.
Last month, the FMB called on local authorities to boost their
housing stock after the current government launched its localism
agenda.
This leaves it up to councils to decide how many homes need to be
constructed in their vicinity.
Mr Berry stated that local authorities now have a responsibility to
help boost the housing stock, as it is at the lowest level since
1924.
